Who services Yamaha outboards in Jacksonville?
Trolling Motor Services Plus (TMS+) does, from its shop at 6735 Greenland Industrial Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32258. The shop sells Yamaha outboards, maintains them and does full repowers, and its technicians complete ongoing Yamaha Marine training. It is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and an estimate is free if you call 904-573-0480.
What it actually depends on
Keeping the motor you have, or replacing it. Maintenance keeps the engine already on the transom going. Once a motor is no longer worth the upkeep, the job becomes a repower: a new Yamaha chosen for the boat and fitted to it. TMS+ does both, so you can talk through the choice with the people who would do either job.
Which Yamaha is on the boat. The range covers a lot of ground. At the top are the XTO Offshore and the V6 4.2 liter at 300 to 225 hp, then the I-4 four strokes at 200 to 150 hp and the V MAX SHO models from 250 down to 90 hp. The Midrange four strokes run 115 to 30 hp, the Portables 25 to 2.5 hp, and there are Jet Drive and High Thrust models too. Tell the shop the model when you call.
What else on the boat needs work. The same shop handles trolling motors, wiring and electronics, so if any of those need attention too, say so when you book the outboard in.
One shop for the motor and what is wired to it
TMS+ is boater owned and operated, and it specializes in trolling motors, boat and trailer wiring and other marine electrical work. The Yamaha work sits alongside that. On the same boat the shop can install or repair a Minn Kota, MotorGuide or Rhodan trolling motor, fit a hydraulic shallow water anchor, rewire the boat or its trailer, and add radar, night vision or an autopilot. Engines, T-tops and trailer rims can also be powder coated in house.
The master technician holds a degree from the Marine Mechanics Institute and worked his way up through Yamaha dealerships across the country before joining the shop.
Prices are not published. Estimates are free, and the quickest way to one is a phone call with the model and what the motor is doing.
Common questions
Can you repower my boat with a new Yamaha?
Yes. Full repowers are part of the Yamaha work, next to sales and routine maintenance. The models shown on the Yamaha page are a good place to start before you call.
Which Yamaha suits an aluminum boat or a pontoon?
Yamaha builds the 70, 60 and 50 hp Midrange four strokes for aluminum fishing boats, pontoons and fiberglass boats. They weigh 247 to 253 pounds, and an optional switch adjusts trolling speed in steps of 50 RPM.
Do you work on anything besides the outboard?
Yes. Trolling motors, shallow water anchors, boat and trailer wiring, lighting and electronics are all done in the same shop. The full list is on the Services page.
When can I bring the boat in?
The shop is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. It helps to call first with the motor model and the problem.
